Brewtal Truth Book signing with Adem Tepedelen and Todd Haug from Surly Brewing. Saturday, December 7th @4pm

Adem wrote a book, has a blog and writes for Decible Mag,Adem likes metal music, and beer, to be exact extreme beer…Todd brews beer at Surly and happens to like metal music too, and just happens to be in Adem’s book…they got to talking and thought it would be great to do a book signing in our fine establishment.  We were  honored and more than happy to host this event.
This is a not to be missed event.  The event will kick off at 4pm on Saturday, December 7th.   Adem, will have books available for $20 that he will be signing,  metal music will be playing and Surly beer will be flowing.  It might be the first and last time that Surly pours in this market, and the day is sure to be one for the record books.  What follows is a blurb from Adem:
Former Seattle-based writer, Adem Tepedelen, will be signing copies of his newly released book, The Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers: An All-Excess Pass to Brewing’s Outer Limits, at this very special book launch. The genesis of the book began with Tepedelen’s “Brewtal Truth” column in Decibel magazine, which he has been writing since 2009. The Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers, the first guide of its type, features descriptions and ratings of more than a 100 insane beer from around the world—broken down into a handful of specific categories. These are outrageous brews with unusual ingredients, ridiculously high alcohol by volume (ABV), bizarre names and sometimes unsettling flavors.
Not only does the book focus on some of the most interesting and hardcore beers in the world, it also features profiles on craft-beer loving metal musicians and extreme craft beer brewers—including special guest, Todd Haug of Surly Brewing—making it a highly entertaining read. The Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers also draws parallels and metaphors from the extreme music scene. Each beer profiled receives an “extreme” rating, tasting notes, information about the beer and what makes it extreme, and a musical pairing selected by the author. There are also numerous entertaining and informative sidebars detailing everything from how these beers are made to the emergent trends in extreme brewing.
Tepedelen won the Michael Jackson Beer Journalism award in late 2008 and has written about metal and beer for dozens of magazines and websites including Decibel, RollingStone.com, Revolver, All About Beer, Northwest Palate and Imbibe.

Surly from Minneapolis will be joining us. Todd from Surly will be sending us a few beers to compliment the event.  Look for us to be pouring:

On the same weekend we have another event that we are still in the planning stages of, we need a few ducks to fall in line before we can tell you about it.  It will be on either Friday, the 6th or Saturday the 7th.  Stay tuned, as soon as we can release the details we will.

Everybody’s favorite the Firestone Walker Ugly Sweater Party is on December 12th at 6pm.  There will be games, gifts and prizes for the ugliest sweater.  The judging of the sweaters will probably take place at about 9pm.  We suggest you get here eat, drink, play some games all in your ugliest sweater.  We will be tapping a bunch of the regular suspects, such as Pivo Pils, Union Jack Ipa, Wookie Jack Black Rye Ipa to name a few…we will be pulling some vintage beers from the cellar, and Firestone is sending us something special.  Beer geeks find your ugliest sweater and prepare your pallet for flavor country.  This is always a super fun event with lots of ways to walk away with a prize.

Virtue Cider and Left Hand Brewing will join us this week

We have been experiencing technical difficulties with our Web hosting, please bare with us.  We haven’t had an up to date list for a couple weeks, but we were able to update it today, again we apologize for any issues this may have caused you.

There will be a costume contest judged by the brewery representatives around 10:30 while the band takes a short break.  Here is a video so you get an idea of what they will be bringing.

Bigwood our celebration of all beers wood aged from Stout to Sour starts on Thursday, December 5th and runs through the weekend.  We are compiling the list and hope to have a rough draft in the next couple of weeks.

September was great! Here’s whats coming in October.

First off, we are amazed that it’s already October.  What happened, and mother nature has surely shown us that Fall is headed our way.  Well enough about that, soon it will be December, and we will all wondering where October and November went.

We have a few events lined up in the upcoming weeks and months:
Tuesday, October 8th at 6pm:  10 Barrel/Bluejacket/Stone  Suede Imperial Porter Release.
What follows is a brief description:
This was such a fun collaboration. Megan first brought forth the idea of an imperial porter, which we all immediately agreed to, and Tonya provided the malt bill. From there, we decided to add some ingredients from Southern California. The avocado honey provided a very rich, intensely floral flavor. The addition of the honey and jasmine reminds me of Southern California summers, while the calendula flowers hail from Stone Farms and bring a nice floral note and hint of bitterness. I’m very pleased at how well these flavors came through in the finished beer.
Not only will we be releasing Suede, we will have some other beers available from Stone and 10 Barrel, here are the other beers we will be pouring:
Stone Reason Be Damned Belgian Style Abbey Ale aged in Red Wine Barrels
Stone Double Bastard Ale with Dark Toasted Oak
Stone Ruination
Stone Levitation
10 Barrel OG Wheat Ipa (Firkin)
10 Barrel Pumpkin
10 Barrel Pray for Snow
October 10th we will be tapping Stone Vertical Epic 10/10/10:
This ninth edition of our Stone Vertical Epic Ale series takes two interesting left turns. A Belgian-style golden triple is the starting point of this beer, but the first left turn is nearly immediate with the addition of dried chamomile flowers, triticale, and Belgian amber candi sugar. The second, and rather unusual left turn takes us half an hour up the road from Stone to Temecula courtesy of the addition of just-pressed Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from our friends at South Coast Winery. As the Stone Vertical Epic Ale series has moved through the calendar, we found that the brewing schedule for a 10.10.10 release coincided nicely with the grape harvest, neatly providing an interesting twist in this epic ale.
We will be closed on Saturday, October 19th for a private event.  Please plan accordingly.
Monday, October 21st we will be hosting a Pelcian Brewing event.  More information will be available when the details are finalized.
Big Wood our celebration of all things wood aged from Stout to Sour starts Thursday, December 5th and runs through the weekend.  We have some great beers hidden away in the cooler, this is a not to be missed event.

Just a few things!

This Monday, July 22nd we will be closed for an employee appreciation party.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Tuesday, July 23rd The Bruery is in town for the re-release of Bottleworks XII.  For those of you that are not familiar with this beer, here is the description of the first beer made two years ago for our bottle store Bottleworks 12th Anniversary.  If you are a fan of sour beers this is one you shouldn’t miss.

Base beer: Imperial Witbier, 8% ABV, sour mashed 1-2 days, and fermented with a blend of Berliner Weisse culture and Belgian Witbier yeast. Beer is barrel fermented in large red wine barrels (132 gal. barrels). Raspberries are added to the beer towards the end of fermentation directly to the barrel, and aged on the raspberries for a minimum of 1 month. The Berliner culture contains souring bacteria and the raspberries will add acidity to the beer.

There will be events at all 3 of our locations starting at 11am when Bottleworks (located at 1710 N 45th St) will be selling bottles of the 2013 re release of this beer, there will be a 3 bottle limit per person on this beer.  They will not be pouring any draft of this beer that day.

After picking up your bottles, head on over to the Burgundian at 5pm as they will be tapping the Re Release of Bottleworks XII.  AT 7PM we will be tapping the re release as well as a few other draft options from The Bruery here including two rare sour options Tart of Darkness (a sour stout) and Sans Pagaie (a sour kriek).  Those of you that love sour beers will sure not want to miss out on trying these beers, we have very limited amounts of all 3.  Both restaurant locations will have bottles of the Re Release available for in house consumption only,  no to go at all.

Cantillon Zwanze Day has been announced!

Cantillon has announced the bars around the world and the date, Saturday, September 14, that will host Zwanze Day 2013 and we are honored to have been selected this year.  We were one of 46 locations in the world and one of 4 on the west coast to be selected.  We are currently figuring out all the details and as we do so we will keep you posted.  We were excited and wanted to let you so that you can save the date.  Here is a link from their website about last years Zwanze Day.

An evening with Finn River

Get ready for the 4th and enjoy a glass of good ol’ American hard cider from the PNW frontier with Finn River’s farmcrafted and fermented variations on the classic apple.  Finnriver founders Keith & Crystie Kisler will be at the counter to share tales of farm life and cider making.  Finnriver’s award-winning craft ciders are authentically handcrafted on their 33 acre organic family farm on the Olympic Peninsula.  Special cider guests include their bourbon-barrel aged Fire Barrel, Seasonal Botanical Lavender Black Currant, along with their popular Pear and Dry Hopped Ciders.
Check out the Facebook Event page here.

Everybody’s favorite celebration of America is July 4th.  We will be closed on July 4th so that our staff can enjoy the holiday.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, and that you get out and enjoy the holiday yourself.

Let me tell you about some events.

We are proud to announce that we will be part of the Washington Launch of Ballast Point Brewing on Wednesday, June 19th @6pm.  We are proud to welcome this San Diego brewery to the market.  We will be pouring 3 of their Ipa’s:

Big Eye IPA 7% abv & 75 IBU’s
Sculpin IPA 7% abv & 70 IBU’s
Dorado IPA 9.6% abv & 90 IBU’s

We hope that you join us in welcoming Ballast Point to Seattle!

Tuesday, July 2nd @ 6pm we will be hosting Finn River Cidery, what better way to kick off your July 4th celebration!  We will be pouring 4 delicious ciders, (Black Currant Lavender, Dry Hopped, Pear and the release of the 2013 Fire Barrel, descriptions to come) and their will be a Finn River Representative on hand to answer questions, hang out with and have a good time with.  We here she is excited to be coming to the Big City.
Watch a short film about Finn River here.

Burgundian has a great event coming up as well.  Brett Fest, A Celebration of Brettanomyces, takes place Thursday, June 27th and runs through the weekend.  They have put together a great list from the likes of Upright, Boulevard, Vicaris, Elysian, Fremont, the Ram, and many more.  The event kicks off at 10 am when they open.  The theme of the whole event is funk, funky food, funky music, we think you get the point.

We think that you might want to save these dates.

We are planning some events in the near future which we are putting the final details on, we are working on an event with Finn River Cidery (Early July) and Ballast Point (probably sometime mid to late next week) is coming to the market soon as well.  We will keep you apprised of all the details as we finalize them.  In lieu of that we will take this time to tell you about our next large events.

Hopfest will start on Thursday, October 3rd and run through the weekend.  We are hoping to have a few more fresh hop beers this year, than in past years, that hop harvest is a tricky beast to time right.  As we get closer to the event we will keep you posted with all the details.

Big Wood will start on Thursday, December 5th and run through the weekend.  We know its a long way off, but these things take time to put together and we know you all appreciate a heads up.

We suggest you mark your calenders, talk to your bosses and let them know that you will be taking a little me time on those days.
