They are collaborating on a beer dubbed “The Three Headed Hop Monster” which will be brewed at Barley Brown’s in early April.  So join us in raising a glass in honor of hops, and celebrating these amazing breweries. Representatives from each brewery will be on hand. We are still working out the exact draft list, but it will make hop heads rejoice.

–>

Our 10th Anniversary, on Saturday March 28th, a major milestone for us! It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years already, or just how much Seattle and the Craft Beer Industry has changed! What were you doing in 2005? What’s your first (or favorite!) Brouwer’s memory? We’d love to know!
In honor of this 10-year milestone we have two very special beers to share with you. New Belgium was kind enough to open up their “wood forest” and allow us to blend a sour beer.  We had a great time hanging out with Eric Salazar, on a sunny December day in Fort Collins, where we tasted close to 20 different fouders. We came up with a 50/50 fouder blend we think everyone will enjoy, but this is a draft only offering.
The second beer was brewed at one of our favorite Seattle Breweries, Reuben’s Brews. Adam, Mike and Thor were great hosts and allowed us to sit in on the brew, on a sunny Monday in early March. This IIPA, appropriately named Gobsmacked (a British slang term for astonished) is a blend of Citra, Mosaic and Galaxy Hops, and it will have your lips smacking.
We are also known for hiding beers in our cellar for a future, special day, and that day is upon us! So, we’ve been digging around looking for beers worthy of our 10th Anniversary, including as many past anniversary beers (from both Brouwers and Bottleworks) as we can find. Attached is the list of the 17 beers we’ve come up with thus far, but we are shooting to put a total of 20 on draft for this event. 10 for the 10thand 10 for the next 10 years!

13th Annual Hardliver Barleywine Festival March 14th and 15th

Is your liver ready?  Have you provided it with sufficient punishment, or are you waiting for the festival?  We are really close to finalizing the list, but most of the Barleywine is in the cooler and awaiting next Saturday’s event.  How early will someone line up this year?  How long will the line be?  What is going to be the crowd favorite?  We are full of questions…  Only time will tell.  On March 14th we will kickoff the 13th Annual Hardliver, it is older than we are, as our 10th Anniversary is just around the corner, on March 28th.  There will be more details on that event in a few as well.
Lets get back to Hardliver, we are going to post the list here in a few, remember as with all things in life this is not to be taken as the law, things change, we make last min changes, but you can count on most if not all of what we post today to be on the draft at the festival.  We are hoping to have some surprises for you as well.  Without any more chatter here is most of what will be on draft..

13th annual Hardliver Barleywine Festival- March 14th and 15th
Our Hardliver Barleywine Festival, which had its first few years at the Phinney Ridge Neighboorhood Center  will be back for its 13th consecutive year. With over 45 barleywines pouring on draft, we suggest you start hardening that liver immediately! This year we plan on hosting all you lovers of that sticky nectar that is barley wine on Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th.

For Immediate Release: Brouwer’s 10thAnniversary party Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29th.
Wow! Do you remember 2005? We do! 2005 was the year we opened our doors and poured our first beer. Back in 2005, Matt “Vern” Vandenbergh brought what he had learned from Bottleworks bottleshop, at the time already into its 5th year, and created Brouwer’s Café. On March 23, 2005, we opened our doors to the public, and the rest (as they say) is history. With over 60 taps, 300 bottles, a wide selection of whisky andwhiskey, and a menu based around the hearty and delicious cuisine of Belgium, Brouwer’s has remained one of Seattle’s premiere beer destinations for the whole of its (almost) 10 years. Every year since our first anniversary we’ve worked with a variety of breweries to create a unique anniversary beer. For our 10th year of pouring pints and snifters to the beer lovers of Seattle and abroad we’ll have two beers to celebrate with. We teamed up with Reuben’s Brews’ Adam Robbings to create a hop-bomb of a beer that would be worthy of such a big milestone in our history. At the young age of 2 years old, Reuben’s has easily become one of our favorite breweries in town, as well as one of our friends. We’ve been happy to host their staff and patrons for both their 1st and 2nd anniversaries, and we’re honored to have them brewing our 10th anniversary beer. Our 10thanniversary beer is a 10% imperial IPA that we have named Gobsmacked and will be available in a very limited number of bottles, as well as on draft. For Bottleworks’ 10th anniversary we worked with the one and only New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado. We thought it would be fun to Blend a Brouwer’s 10 as well, and we headed down hang out and blend a beer in early December. Eric and Lauren were kind enough to open up the wood cellar at New Belgium and we had an amazing day.  We tasted somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 different fouders and came up with a beer that we are very happy with.  New Belgium’s contribution will be a draft only affair, and we’ll be pouring it like it’s hot at our anniversary party.  We will also be digging in to the cellar and pulling out some past anniversary beers.  Mark your calenders and plan on having a great day!

We are proud to be hosting the Kickoff Party for the Washington Hop Mob Triple Ipa Roadshow on February 6th @3pm!

A Celebration of Washington’s Biggest and Hoppiest Brews

The Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow celebrates hoppy beers and showcases the talents of Washington’s breweries

The 2nd Annual Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow (Hop Mob) is a two-week celebration of the hoppiest of all Washington-brewed beer styles. Over 30 Washington breweries signed up to produce special batches of Triple IPA to pour at a series of events around the Puget Sound region during February.

Hop Mob begins with the official Hop Mob Kickoff at Brouwer’s Café in Seattle (400 N. 35th Street) on Friday, February 6 and concludes with the Hop Mob Finale at Pike Brewing in Seattle (1415 1st Avenue) on Saturday, February 21. Sandwiched between those dates, various beer-focused bars around the Puget Sound area will host Hop Mob Roadshow events.

The Hop Mob Kickoff and the Hop Mob Finale will each feature over 30 Triple IPAs on tap—all of the Hop Mob beers. Each Hop Mob Roadshow event features at least a dozen of the beers on tap. Locations currently signed up to host Hop Mob Roadshow events include Flatstick Pub in Kirkland; the Red Hot in Tacoma; and Naked City Brewery and Taphouse in Seattle. More locations and events will be added in the coming weeks. A complete calendar of events is available on the official Hop Mob website, www.wahopmob.com.

The event showcases Washington-brewed Triple IPAs, perhaps the most boldly hoppy of all beer styles. Typically this style of beer weighs in at more than 9 percent Alcohol by Volume and features profound hop character, whether in the form of bitterness, aroma, or both.

“Triple IPA is a difficult style of beer to master and breweries that do it well are highly revered,” says Kim Sharpe Jones of the Washington Beer Blog, which is helping organize and promote the events. “Some out-of-state Triple IPAs get an enormous amount of attention and cause beer enthusiasts to swoon like preteens at a One Direction concert. Our goal with Hop Mob is to show that Washington’s brewers can produce beers that stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any of those ballyhooed, out-of-state beers. Also, it’s a great excuse to drink some really excellent stuff.”

Beyond the beer, Hop Mob is a celebration of hops and the relationship between hop farmers and brewers. To brew a good Triple IPA, brewers use a substantial amount of malted barley, which provides the elevated alcohol content. To balance-out the malty sweetness and give the beer its requisite hoppy character, brewers rely on substantial quantities of hops.

In Washington, hops are more than an ingredient, they’re a way of life. The Yakima Valley produces between 75 and 80 percent of the nation’s hop crop each year and some of the farms are operated by families that have grown hops for four and five generations.

For more information about Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow, visit the official website at www.wahopmob.com or contact Kendall Jones at kjones@wahopmob.com.

We are currently working on a list of the participating breweries…we do know that Fremont Brewing brewed theirs a couple of days ago.

Can you believe its the end of the year! Mark your calenders with some of this info.

Mark your calenders, we will be closed on December 24th and 25th so that our employees can enjoy the holiday.  We will also be closed on January 1st, so that we can recover from the holidays.  That said what follows is a rough idea of the next few months:

Wednesday, January 21st @6pm- “Off the Wagon” art show with local artists Kevin “Sensei 23” Sullivan and Solace Wonder.  I bet you can guess the theme of the show.  We are hoping to have a one of a kind mini pint glass for sale at the event, as well as many pieces from these two artists.  The art will be up till the end of February.

Wednesday, January 28th- @6pm East vs West, Victory Brewing vs Elysian Brewing, the breweries will battle for best in show in 5 different beer styles.  We are hoping to have a DJ on hand as well.

Friday, February 6th-  @3pm Washington Hop Mob Triple Ipa kickoff party.  Last year this event was on the Monday of President’s weekend and we had a total of 16 Washington Triple Ipas on draft.  This year it has been moved to an earlier date, and has grown from 16 to 30 plus.  We will be starting at 3pm, we will offer 6oz and 12oz options.

Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 –13th Annual Hardliver Barleywine Fest– Get your livers ready.

Saturday, March 28th- 10th Anniversary Celebration– We will have a couple of Anniversary beers released this day as well as lots of special beers on draft from around the world.

Pumpkin Roadshow and some other events!

You like pumpkin beer?  We do! All the pumpkin beers seem to come out too early, so we hang on to some each year and serve them up the day before Thanksgiving. This year the Roadshow kicks off Wednesday, November 26th @ 6pm.  Elysian is the king of pumpkin beers, so we throw what we have called the Elysian Pumpkin Roadshow.  The formula is pretty simple, we save 8 Elysian pumpkin beers and this year 9 other Pumpkin beers (including a cider).   What follows is a list of what we are tapping for the event:

Wednesday, November 26th at 6pm Elysian Brewing Pumpkin Roadshow
The formula for this one is pretty straight forward.  Elysian does their Pumpkin fest we do a Roadshow edition here the night before Thanksgiving.  We tap 8 Elysian beers and 8 or a few more from other folks.  We are happy with the list this year.
Elysian beers:
Great Pumpkin
Night Owl
Punkacinno

While you are out shopping, you can always get some relaxation here with a pint in between trying to find that perfect gift for the loved ones…or you might be going to Fremont Brewing for their B-Bomb release which starts Friday @ 5pm as well, so stop in before you go to Fremont for a pint and some food.

8th Annual Big Wood Festival
Thursday, December 4ththru Sunday, December 7th
Our annual celebration of all things that have spent time in a barrel or with chips from Stout to Sour.  This is one of , if not our favorite festival of the year.  We work all year collecting some of our favorite beers around the world and put them on draft for your imbibing pleasure.  I will be posting an almost full list of the beers being tapped by tomorrow afternoon.  Stay tuned.
This year we have beers from:
Almanac, Avery Bainbridge Island, Ballast Point, Bear Republic, Black Raven, Boneyard, Boulevard, Crux Fermentation, De Struise, Deschutes, Destihil, Elysian, Engine House #9, Fremont, Full Sail, Great Divide, Hales, Holy Mountain, Jolly Pumpkin, Logsdon, Lompoc, Lost Abbey, Midnight Sun, New Belgium, Pelican, Perennial, Pike, Port, Reuben’s, Schooner Exact, Seven Seas, Sound, Surly, Stone

We have some upcoming events… to get you ready for the Holidaze!

Thursday, November 20thstarting at 6pm, Firestone Walker Ugly Sweater Party.  We have moved the date of this around and thought we would try earlier this year before the Holidaze take over and everyone of us has too many social engagements to stay on top of.  The formula is pretty simple.  We tap some Firestone Walker beers, invite people to join us, encourage them to wear Ugly Sweaters so that they can win prizes.   In the past years, pretty much everyone that wore an ugly sweater has left with some kind of prize. Tom comes up with some games to keep the party going, last year there was lots and lots of limbo going on, and everyone in attendance probably is still sick of the limbo song.  That’s the idea.  This year there will be the option to cross stitch your own ugly sweater ornament.  Supplies will be limited.
We will be tapping:
15th Anniversary
Parabola 2013
Mocha Merlin
Agrestic Sour
Merlin
Union Jack Ipa

Hopfest is here!!!

Hopfest our annual celebration of all things hoppy, starts tomorrow October 8th at 11am and runs through Sunday, October 12th.  We are very proud of the amount of Fresh Hop, and other hoppy gems that we have collected in the past few weeks.   We made a few road trips and were able to amass some rare beers for the Seattle market.  It sure is hard work driving around and meeting great brewers all in the name of this festival.  Hard work I say!  We have a little different format this year, usually we fill all the taps with a beer or cider that fits in with the festival.  This year we are starting with 42 different hoppy  beers.  Throughout the 5 days of this festival we will rotate in other beers as the ones we start with blow.  This gives you many reasons to come back day after day to enjoy a new fresh hop or hoppy beer that wasn’t on the previous day. It  all so allows us to accommodate those folks that for one reason or another aren’t in to hoppy beer.  We are really excited about the line up that will be on draft tomorrow upon opening, I’ve said enough.  What follows is what you can expect to see on draft,  remember sometimes we make game time decisions and things change, this here is mostly if not exactly what you will see on draft tomorrow.

Welcome to Hopfest! We have put together a list comprised of mostly Fresh hopped Beers, but also has some of our favorite hoppy creations as well.  We hope you enjoy!

Hopfest–our annual celebration of all things hoppy will start on Wednesday, October 8th and run through the weekend.  We are changing the format a bit this year in an attempt to provide as many fresh hop options as we can.  We are going to start on Wednesday with 20 fresh hop beers plus 12 or so other hoppy options, and keep a rotating cast of 20 fresh hop beers on draft throughout the festival.  We hope to see you on more than one of the days…due to the nature of these beers the list of beers is still a work in progress.  As it gets closer we will update you as to what will be available.

Goose Island Migration event Wednesday, September 3rd

–>

We are pleased to announce that Goose Island Brewing out of Chicago has chosen us to host a Goose Island Migration event.  What is the Goose Island Migration you ask?  The simple answer is this: Goose Island sends brewers, and many rare beers and host events in multiple locations in a market. This is the first time that our market has been included in The Migration and we are one of those chosen locations.  We will be hosting a Migration event on Wednesday, September 3rdstarting at 6pm.  As we mentioned before there will be brewery representatives on hand.  What rare offerings are we talking about?  The brewery digs deep for these events they are sending us:
Bourbon County Proprietors
Bourbon County Coffee 2012
Bourbon County Backyard Rye
Juliet
Sofie
Matilda
Gillian
Lolita
Ipa
312 Wheat
This will certainly be the first time that we have seen many of these beers on draft in this market.

We celebrate Reuben’s Brews 2nd Anniversary !

Thursday, August 7th at 6pm we will be hosting a re-release of Midnight Sun Barfly Smoked Imperial Stout, as well as pouring a few other offerings from this Anchorage Brewery.  This is a rare opportunity to taste this delicious beverage.

Here’s what Midnight Sun says about the beer:

ABV: 11.6%
IBU: 45

Somber and smoky, BarFly Smoked Imperial Stout saunters into the room slowly. Thick smoke. Cool swagger. Good wood. Bit of bourbon. Sticky leather. Slow glances. Lingering looks. Vanilla. The only thing that didn’t make the glass was maraschino cherry. Bring your own and…wear out your welcome.

First brewed as part of our 2010 Pop Ten Series, BarFly was added to our Alaska’s Most Wanted line-up in 2014. Bourbon barrel-aging requires a long leisure so this beer is not on a set schedule but we hope to get a batch out about once a year.
Availability:
AK – 22-oz bottles and very limited draft (Summer 2014)
WA, OR, CA, NY – 22-oz bottles (Summer 2014)
ALASKA’S MOST WANTED
Midnight Sun crafts some of the most sought-after beer in the world. This ongoing and ever-growing line—called Alaska’s Most Wanted—includes creative successes from our themed beer series as well as amazing one-offs. The beers in this line-up will be produced and released as time and tank space permit but they will be repeated.
We hope you love our extra special brews as much as we do. A gracious thank-you to our long time “every weather” fans for years of love and support. And an open-armed welcome to the new aficianados who are just discovering our very characterful beers.

We have a Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Event on , Tuesday, July 22nd starting at 6pm.  What better time to drink   We thought it would be a great time to pour some of the Logsdon Beer in the cooler.  We will be pouring:

Far West Vlaming (6.5%)
Our organic red ale is brewed in traditional West Flanders style. A combination of light, crystal, and dark barley malt, wheat, and oats are brewed with local whole-cone hops and a variety of select yeast and lactic bacteria. We age our red ale in oak barrels for a period of time to develop complex richness, soft tannins, and fruity tart character. The aged beer is then blended with young beer to create the desired balance of malt sweetness with a dry finish.

Seizoen Bretta (8%)—we will have ’13 and ‘14 vintages
Our organic farmhouse ale is brewed in small batches on a traditional farm brewery as it has historically been made for hundreds of years. This unfiltered bottle of seizoen, with its beeswax seal, is naturally refermented and carbonated with select yeast strains producing fruity and spicy flavors that are balanced by hops and a soft malt character. Special Brettanomyces yeast provides added dryness and crisp complexity. For the most satisfying results, store upright in a cold, dark place and enjoy in a proper glass.
Certified Organic

The Conversion Ale (7.8%)
Logsdon’s first wild ale, this is a tart, juicy ale brewed in the farmhouse tradition and opened to wild fermentation.

And their newly released Tripel.

Please join us on Tuesday, July 22nd.

You want to drink Chimay Red on draft!

We invite you to join us tomorrow, July 9th, to drink a Chimay Red or Chimay “Première” on draft.  This is the first time that it has been available on draft in Seattle.  This is an exciting opportunity to drink a great Trappist Bier.

What follows is a blurb from their website:
The Chimay “Première” was the first beer brewed at the Notre-Dame de Scourmont Abbey by the Trappist fathers in 1862.
Its current recipe was crafted by Father Théodore when he recreated the brewery after World War II. He was directly inspired by the original recipes from the beginnings of the brewery.

We have a couple of other events coming up in the near future as well:

We survived Seattle Beer Week….and have planned a Brewery Launch

Thanks to all of you for your support in making this Seattle Beer Week a roaring success.  Thank you for making Back in Black Stout Fest, Beer and Burger Battle and Sour Fest awesome this year.  How nice was it to be drinking sour beer in the sun on Thursday, May 15th? Lets do it again next year.   Here’s to more great events!

That said we have a new brewery from Vancouver, WA that is coming to the Seattle market and we are pleased to be hosting the launch of Heathen Brewing on Thursday, June 12th @6pm. Here is there story:

Heathen Brewing is a small craft brewery that was created from the soul of home brewing. The realization that we as a people want to break the corporate strong hold on the beer industry and get back to using local ingredients in small craft batch brewing has demanded the formation of Heathen Brewing. At Heathen Brewing we make small batches of “Progressive Ales for the Promiscuous Palate”. It all begins with fresh, high quality ingredients and that means sourcing those ingredients from those in our community. The freedom to create seasonal and experimental beer will allow Heathen Brewing to truly test the palate of our community. The Heathen way will move quickly towards the new hops and malts that are being introduced as science, technology and the American spirit create new versions of classic recipes. This forward thinking will create new and unique recipes that will tantalize the tongues of the Heathen Faithful. Through the love of travel and the appreciation of different cultures many beer recipes can now be formed or re-born 10 barrels at a time.

We will be offering 4 beers from their portfolio.  We are still finalizing what those offerings will be.
